Grace

We creatures, we jolly beggars, give glory to God by our dependance. Out wounds and defects are the very fissures through which grace might pass. It is out human destiny on earth to be imperfect, incomplete, weak and mortal, and only by accepting that destiny can we escape the force of gravity and receive grace. Only then can we grow close to God.

Stock check

One of the critical path on the project timeline was the stock migration from the legacy to the new system. Before that can happen, a full stock take is taken to ensure spot-on perfection of inventory accuracy. Although I was not directly involved in the stock migration process (the Finance people were, thank goodness it's not me!), but it affected every one else directly because nothing else begins without stock in the system. Although observing from the sideline, there are few learnings I can pick up :
  • Daily transactional data has to be diligently kept updated and discrepancies to be kept minimal.
  • Keep short accounts of discrepancies - settle it quickly and do not sweep it under the carpet
  • Do not "MacGyver" around with the system - come clean.
  • Regular full stock check is necessary - not only for audit compliance, but also for ongoing operational excellence.
  • Failure to comply results in obscene write-offs, difficulties to operations, reduced customer service levels, and of course, someone's head could end up on the chopping board.

I remember penning down some thoughts on Conquering 2006 For Christ. We are now into the 3rd quarter mark, and it's a timely opportunity to "stock check" our walk with Jesus. Have we been taking up our cross and pray daily? Have we been sweeping our sins under the carpet everyday instead of confessing them? Do we constantly try to justify ourselves out of a temptation, no matter how small it was? How could we described our walk with God - travelling light or with excess baggage? What are you to say to Jesus when He comes back tomorrow?
